Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya is a very popular mantra. A Mantra is that which is discovered, seen, by a seer, a rsi. so a rsi is asage who, for the good of the world, gives a mantra that he saw. it comes down to us as a blessing with the rsi's sankalpa - his thought of blessing us. so when we chant a mantra the blessing of the rsi invoked and also the meaning which is contained in the mantra.
